A basic remote
starter can be added to any vehicle. A remote starter can be
added to a factory remote, or an aftermarket remote can be
used to control the remote starter. An add-on remote start is
used by pressing the lock button on the factory remote 3
times. This is nice because you do not have to carry around 2
remotes to control the remote starter. The downfall is to an
add-on remote starter is that, whatever range you can lock and
unlock your doors from, is going to be the range of the remote
starter. Example: If you can lock and unlock your doors from
25 feet away, that is going to be the distance of your remote
starter.
The next step up is going to be a 1 button remote starter. A 1
button remote starter is nice because it gives you increased
range as opposed to the add-on remote starter. The typical
range of this remote start is going to be between 1000-1200
feet. This remote start system is going to be the Avital 4111.
The size of the remote is a bit smaller that a half dollar.
This remote start is nice for vehicles that do not have
factory power locks. The only down side of this remote starter
is going to be carrying around 2 remotes.
If you're not looking to carry around 2 remotes for your
remote starter, a 3rd option is a great option. A 4 button
remote starter can be installed in your vehicle. It provides
you with lock, unlock, remote start and trunk release (if
factory power trunk release is standard). This remote starter
provides an increased range of 1200-1500 feet. This system is
the Avital 4113. This remote start system allows you to keep
your factory remotes at home, and save them for if you ever
remove your remote starter and sell/trade the car in.
Other options
over remote starters include 2-way LED remotes, and 2-way LCD
remotes. All of the above remote start systems are a standard
1-way. This means when you press the command on the remote, it
sends it to the vehicle and the remote start performs the
action. With a 2-way remote start the command is sent to the
vehicle, the action is performed and the remote start sends a
confirmation back to the remote to let you know the command
was successfully executed. The 2 types of remote start
systems are LED & LCD. LED gives you an audible tone with an
LED flash on the remote start remote as confirmation. With an
LCD remote, a small picture of the vehicle is shown, and a
visual indicator is shown on the remote start remote, along
with an audible tone.
Alarms can also be added to any of the above remote start
systems. These are also available in 1-way and 2-way setups.
Alarms/security systems are a great way to protect your
vehicle and also lower your insurance rates. Features of
alarms and remote starters include; door triggers, hood
triggers, trunk triggers, starter interrupt (kill switch) and
a shock sensor. This will give you full protection of your
vehicle using one of our alarms. The car alarm will be
triggered if the one of the doors, trunk, or hood is opened.
The car alarm will be triggered if the vehicles is hit by an
impact from a potential thief. If a thief does enter your
vehicle protected by an alarm system, a starter interrupt will
prevent the vehicle from being started. The car alarm
interrupts the starter wire every time the alarms lock button
is pressed, and re-engages the starter wire every time the
alarms unlock wire is pressed.
Other sensors
can be added to a basic alarm, 2-way alarm, 1-way alarm &
remote start and a 2-way alarm and remote start. These
include; motion sensors, audio sensors, back-up battery, glass
break sensors, and tilt sensors.
A great addition to any alarm remote start is the Viper
Smartstart. The Viper Smartstart is an add-on to any of the
above alarms and remote starts. This allows you to control the
features of your alarm and remote start directly from you
phone. The Viper Smartstart can lock and unlock your doors as
well as pop your trunk and remote start your car. There is no
range limit when using a Viper Smartstart. The Viper
Smartstart has been tested to work around the world, within
seconds. The Viper Smartstart can also alert you of when your
alarm system is going off and why your alarm system is going
off. Viper Smartstart also has a tracking system version so
you can track your vehicle directly from your phone. The Viper
Smartstart will give you live, up to the minute tracking of
your vehicle.
